As learnt from Nanjing Corporation of Metro Operation, three metro-routes will be simultaneously opened in Nanjing in 2009.

The first one under construction is No. two metro-route of 25.3 kilometers in total length with an investment of 10.45 billion yuan.

The second one of 18 kilometers in total length, with construction started in early July this year, is No. one metro-route extending southward with an investment of 6.92 billion yuan.

The third one of 9.2 kilometers in total length, with construction to be started in July next year, is No. two metro-route extending eastward with an investment of 2.397 billion yuan. The third one will also receive energetic support from local authorities of Xianlin new urban district.

These tree metro-routes totaling 52.5 kilometers in length will be open to traffic at the end of 2009 at the same time. By then, an initial shape of a metro-network will take place in Nanjing, which will give a great impetus to the improvement of communications in Nanjing and the prosperity of Jiangnin and Xianlin districts.
